Video Teases GTA 4 Animation Technology

When it arrives next Tuesday, Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, X360) will be the first retail game to feature NaturalMotion's euphoria animation technology.

In advance of the title's release, NaturalMotion sent over a video demonstrating how the real-time animations of the euphoria engine differ from other solutions, such as ragdoll physics.

The euphoria technology is also being utilized the physics-intensive PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of LucasArt's Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as well as NaturalMotion's own football game Backbreaker (PS3, X360).

New screenshots and a gameplay movie are now available for Backbreaker (PS3, X360), the upcoming football game from NaturalMotion.

The shots and video feature Tackle Alley, a mini-game meant to show off dynamically generated tackles courtesy of NaturalMotion's euphoria animation engine. Euphoria is also used in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Engine-maker NaturalMotion is working on its first game for "next-gen" consoles, utilizing its Euphoria engine for collision-perfect tackles. Will it be able to go head-to-head with other football series in areas other than busting heads? Shacknews sat down with Backbreaker associate producer Matt Sherman for the studio's plans on making a game-changing simulation of the ol' Two-Below. Click on at the same time or it doesn't count.
It's definitely not going to be a first-person, 2K5 disaster, but it's going to be more of a third-person experience. We want you to feel the pressures of being on the field. So the gameplay is going to be different, and the look is going to be different.
