One of this year's best-selling Xbox 360 titles, EA Montreal's co-op action game Army of Two (PS3, 360) is getting more than a sequel--it's becoming a full-fledged movie.

Publisher Electronic Arts will be producing thefilm--a first for the company--alongside Scott Stuber, with The Bourne Ultimatum co-writer Scott Z. Burns handling the script. Variety, which broke the story, reports that Universal Pictures hopes to begin production next year.

Electronic Arts has announced that the second set of downloadable maps for EA Montreal's co-op action game Army of Two (PS3, 360) will arrive this Thursday, May 29.

Available for free through the online Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store, the Veteran Map Pack includes two new co-op campaign maps, Kiev and Miami, along with a China Canal two-on-two multiplayer map.

The company noted that the new maps are "dynamic and interactive," complete with "destructible objects that were not available in the retail version."

Electronic Arts today announced that new content will be released for the co-op shooter Army of Two next Thursday. The new Security and Strategy Corporation Challenge DLC contains four maps featuring a series of obstacle courses, with the chance to join the SSC, the Private Military Corporation in Army of Two, upon completion.

"We want to support our fans with new content that delivers on the two-man gameplay but with a unique twist," said EA Montreal's Alain Tascan, adding, "The SSC Challenge gives players a chance to test their skills in a different setting while retaining the action packed co-op intensity that gamers have come to expect in Army of Two."

The SSC Challenge mode and maps will be available for $7.50 on both the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store.

Publisher Electronic Arts announced today that a downloadable demo of EA Montreal's recently released co-op action game Army of Two (PS3, X360) will be available via the Xbox 360's online Xbox Live Marketplace on April 1. Featuring a co-op training session before dropping players into Somalia where they must work together to overthrow a warlord, the demo will be exclusive to the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Regional lockout in the online multiplayer component of EA Montreal's co-op-focused Army of Two (PS3, X360) was necessary to maintain stable network performance, senior producer Reid Schneider has stated.

The lock prevents gamers in North American, Europe, and Asia from playing online with one another. Addressing the complaints, Schneider said that the restriction was meant to ensure solid connection performance for those playing online.

"[In a multiplayer match] the person with the worst connection brings down the whole group to his/her worst connection level," Schneider told Joystiq. "When playing in Versus mode three people can be highly adversely affected by one player with a bad connection. We use the region lock to minimize the likelihood of this occurring."

GameSpot , Team Xbox and IGN have their own Army of Two previews up, blasting through the first couple of levels in the game.

Though I've played EA Montreal's third-person collaborative shooter Army of Two before, I hadn't played it with anyone except EA reps demoing the title. At an EA event last week, I took on the first hour or so of the game with Shacknews' own wingman extreme, Chris Remo. The title was recently delayed until 2008, but read on to see why the co-op bro action is worth the wait.

As Remo can attest, it's extremely difficult to shoot enemies from the air while the other player is moving the parachute--hell, it's pretty tough regardless. But it can be done, and this furthers the collaborative play required in other areas of the game by forcing close communication--"Stop moving, dammit, I need to shoot this guy!"--between the two players.

After years of neglect, cooperative play is finally back in the limelight thanks to successful games like Halo and Gears of War. However, few games fully embrace the feature to the extent that EA's upcoming Army of Two (PS3, X360) does.

I spoke with producer Reid Schneider--who noted the team's reliance on the mantra "co-op's not the mode, co-op is the game"--about how and why Army of Two places such a heavy focus on having two players work through a campaign collaboratively. We knew we wanted to focus on co-op, that was really core for us. We had some ideas, but we didn't know the exact setting we wanted to do. Back on Xbox 1, there were a couple interesting co-op experiences, and then if you think back to Contra or Double Dragon, there were some, but when we were first thinking about this nobody had really nailed it on next-gen consoles yet.

Sorry bros, EA Montreal's suggestive backslapper of a private military contractor life simulator has been pushed into Q1 2008. The co-op-tacular PS3 and Xbox 360 versions were previously slated for release on November 15.

"We just want to add extra polish to the game--I think everyone would want that," executive producer Alan Tascan told 1UP. "Our job is to delight the customer and we feel that we need more time to add the polish."

I recently got some hands-on time with EA Montreal's buddy bad-guy shooter, Army of Two (PS3, X360). Turns out partners really do make everything more fun. If you want to read about two right-on dudes having an awesome time, you'll have to take my hand.

EA Montreal did a great job with making the controls for these context-sensitive segments incredibly natural. When my human-controlled partner picked up a heavy shield, all I had to do was run up behind him. My character automatically latched onto his best bro's back with one hand, and the camera angle switched to give me a more helpful sideways view.
