McGee Interview

Dec 07, 2000 10:28am CST tags: John Carmack, Alice, Interview
The promised American McGee interview is now available at Well-Rounded Entertainment. It has some more info about Alice: The Movie, as well as his next two projects. One of them will be a PS2 game, but he also wants to do another PC game using the Doom3 engine.

McGee, who's close friends with John Carmack, has seen the engine at work and calls it a "quantum leap" in gaming engines.
"What blows me away is the lighting architecture," he says. "The light is real. It's like watching a movie with the sound off, then - whoa! - turning on Dolby 5-channel."

The game Alice should now be out in stores everywhere by the way. If you liked the demo, expect the same quality from the full version (what I've seen so far anyway).

Alice: The Movie

In an interview that's running on Well Rounded Entertainment tomorrow (but they couldn't wait with this news), American McGee is confirming that his version of Alice is heading to the silver screen. It took 10 months of negotiations but Dimension Films have picked up the rights and apparently Wes Craven (director; Scream series, Nightmare On Elm Street) and John August (script writer; Go, Charlie's Angels) are already attached to the project. McGee will be one of the producers.

The long-standing rumors can now be confirmed. American McGee's Alice - the EA action game that has the industry buzzing - is headed to the big screen. McGee tells Well Rounded Entertainment that after 10 months of negotiations, Dimension Films has committed to make a film version of McGee's "Dark Wonderland." And judging by the talent already attached to the project, Dimension has high hopes for this one.

There will be more details tomorrow.

There is a readme included but it doesn't state how many levels are included. Looks like we are having some problems with our FTP server so no mirror, sorry guys.

Alice Approaches

Dec 01, 2000 10:31am CST tags: Alice
Alice has gone gold just recently and should be showing up on shelves shortly. That also means that we should be getting a playable demo of the game in the very near future. Really looking forward to seeing how this one turned out, it sure looks wacky enough. Ok ok here is the new hands-on from the GameSpotUK folks.

The gameplay is, within the first four levels played so far, simplistic, if not easy - based as it is on a combination of exploration and acrobatics that will be familiar to fans of Ms Croft. The choice of weapons is imaginative but difficult to get used to because each is suited to very limited circumstances with little crossover. If the gameplay itself isn't groundbreaking the rewards so far have been worth it.

Some stuff to look at for the late-nighters from Alice which was just announced as gone gold and we're all hoping for a demo in the near future. Check out a bunch of video footage over here of the game, and a bunch of screenshots on GameSpy. Also BluesNews points the way to these screenshots on IntelGamer. Rumor has it Alice will work on an AMD CPU also. I updated the Shack Alice screenshot index earlier today with a few new shots from EA as well.
