Crazy hardware article of the day I spotted on AcesHardware. It's not quite that 90GHz stuff from yesterday but it looks like the AMD fabs are already yielding 1GHz and even 1.2GHz 0.18 micron Athlon chips! Dig it:

The good news: a good percentage of .18 micron Athlon's (Al) are yielding 1 GHz. A decent amount of Copper Athlons (better take a seat) are already hitting 1.2 GHz!! Again, Yields are way better than expected. The Thunderbird seems to be ahead of schedule too (no details right now).

Sharky's has a review of that spanking fast CPU, the Athlon 750mhz. Get me one for Christmas Steve? ;)

Seems the announcement of the 750mhz 0.18 micron AMD Athlon chip is getting a stir, Check out the write-ups over at ZDNet, also on CNET, as well as the guys at CNNfn

AnandTech has gotten a hold of the new 750mhz AMD Athlon system running 0.18 micron. Check out the always informative and in depth review they are offering up. Of course that means that AMD has announced the new 750 as being available.

Digital Clips is offering up the latest article on how to overclock an AMD Athlon CPU. The chips overclock pretty darn good so if you've got the right motherboard it's worth a looksee.

A bit on ZDNet talking about the Athlon making its way back into Gateway after a much publicized departure of ways of the 2 companies only a few months ago.

TomsHardware is the first guy on the block to get a hold of that nifty new 1GIGAHERTZ Kryotech cooled AMD Athlon system. It's of course the fastest damn thing on the block. These things just keep getting faster and faster.

Here is an article taking a look at the 64bit AMD CPU which is in development right now. It's a bit speculative of course since nobody is completely sure what the CPU will be like (including AMD) but some interesting weekend reading.

As expected from the story I posted yesterday, AMD has opened/announced their Dresden plant in Germany. You can also check out this Reuters story while you are at it. Here's the deal:

Today we are dedicating a magnificent new manufacturing facility, the first fab of the new millennium, and the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility in the world,'' Sanders said. ``Next year, we plan to be producing AMD Athlon processors capable of running at 1 gigahertz, or 1,000 megahertz, here in Dresden.

It looks like those guys at TheRegister may have been accurate on the 1,000mhz Athlon CPUs that AMD is planning after all. This ZDNet article has word of the Dresden CPU fab that has AMD contemplating 1,000mhz Athlon CPUs.. But that isnt till next year.  900mhz is slated for later this quarter though!

The company will dedicate the fab, located in Dresden, Germany, Wednesday morning. The first samples of Athlons running at approximately 900MHz are expected later this quarter. ... <snip> ... In a dedication ceremony, AMD CEO W. J. Sanders is expected to tell attendees that the fab will be producing 1GHz, or 1,000MHz, Athlon chips next year. AMD's Athlon roadmap shows those chips coming in the second half.

Wonder how high those Kryotech guys will crank these...
