However don't think 3dfx's T&L will be as the T&L engines we have seen up until now.Even in the T&L case 3dfx has chosen its own and original method infact the T&L functions are separeted from the rendering chip and are done by an external dedicated processor. There are rumors about this external processor being the Sage, the chip which was believed to be the successor of Rampage but this is unconfirmed
...a completely new architecture, code-named Rampage. "We've spent the last 18 months having 30 engineers designing a new core from the ground up," Zacarias said. The firm expects to introduce Rampage in the first half of 2000, with production slated for the second half.
Well, I guess Zacarias was wrong on that introduction date.
3dfx is concentrating on maximizing revenues while we ride out our component shortage and executing on future product releases. For the near future, this means making sure the 5500 series is successful. I do not think it is any secret that giving out dates prematurely has hurt our company in the past. The V5 6000 product is in development. We will be releasing the V5 6000 this summer. When the release date solidifies, we will make sure everyone knows what it is.
