Full Throttle

Jul 14, 2002 10:46pm CST
Lucas Arts makes the best adventure games in the business hands down. Full Throttle is just another in their long line of excellent games... well, there was that one strategy game they came out with, the worst strategy game ever, called Force Commander.

Graphics: 8.2

Lucas employs its trademark 2D adventure game style in this game much like the first 3 Monkey Island titles. Even though the graphics are not 3D even in the slightest. They are still very artistic and portray the mood of a futuristic biker game almost perfectly. The backgrounds are where the game really shines through. Since the backgrounds are mostly static a lot of detail can go into making them quite pretty. The character artwork is also very good, although not as good as they could have been.

Sound: 9.0

The sound track, like all Lucas games, is excellent. And the sound effects and voice acting are very good. The main hero character has the voice fit for a hardcore biker. Hopefully the new Full Throttle coming out will take heed of it's predecessorÂ’s sound quality.

Presentation: 8.0

The game is played through the use of the mouse. There is almost no keyboard use. Like most Lucas ArtÂ’s adventure games Full Throttle uses symbols for it's menu system. When you click on a person or a thing a menu comes up with different symbols such as a mouth for conversation or a hand to pick the object up. This method is very effective in these types of games. Throughout the story the game is flawlessly interrupted by movies to further the plot and advance the game. The animation of the movies connects very well with the artistic style of the game itself.

Game play: 9.3

The puzzles in the game are all hard enough to get you thinking but not hard enough to make you use a guide. And the objects you pick up throughout the game all become useful later in the game.

Replay Value: 6.5

Clocking in around 12 hours of playtime for the first time through it's not the longest adventure game ever made. Some might want to play through it for a second time but after that the game is a nice coaster.

Overall: 8.7

It's a very nice adventure game. And one that I personally enjoyed. But don't take my word for it.
