Contest: Guitar Hero Aerosmith Wrapup

Jul 22, 2008 6:08pm CST tags: Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
With the recent release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (PS2, PS3, 360, Wii) we called upon Shackers to show their love of rock and righteously wield the epic power of an air guitar.

The submissions have been collected into gallery form here and sat before the judgment of the Shacknews staff. Up for grabs we had two copies of the game, one for 360 and PS3, courtesy of Activision.

Contest: Win Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Guitars

Jul 18, 2008 9:38am CST tags: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Contests
If the words "Walk This Way," "Livin' on the Edge" or "Sweet Emotion" mean anything to you, you're probably familiar with veteran rock band Aerosmith. With the arrival of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, so Activision and Shacknews thought we could do a bit of a contest for those seriously dedicated to rocking out.

We went through the contest a few days ago, but thought it might be nice to give people a second chance at the things so a few more people could take a shot at the prize. Up for grabs we have two copies of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, with guitar and game; one for Xbox 360 and one for PS3.

What we want from you is your best self portrait of air guitar glory, either solo or with a backup band. So set the self timer, teach your cat how to choose the right shutter speed, or get all your friends in costume to "air band" all of Aerosmith. Shacknews will give you a week to do this, and we'll choose our two favorites to win, so have your entries in by 11:59 PM CST on Friday, July 18th.

Contest: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Air Band

Jun 27, 2008 4:34pm CST tags: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Contests
When asking what band players would like to see in Guitar Hero, Aerosmith was one of choices to top the list. Thanks to Activision, fans will have this desire answered and then some with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith coming out soon for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PS2.

To celebrate the release, Activision and Shacknews are teaming up for a bit of a contest. We could just have you submit your email address, but that seems simple and, well, lame. I mean, we have a copy of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for Xbox 360 and PS3 each, so something more seems in order.

As such we are asking Shackers to post your best "air band." Everyone can admit to playing the air guitar—it's just like that, except we want a photograph of at least two people in full air band action, guitar, drums, vocals, accordion, you name it. And if you happen to dress in hair band regalia, then all the better.

So gather your friends and post your picture in the comments of this post, along with your platform(s) of preference. We will take submissions until 11:59pm CST on Tuesday, and the ShackStaff will choose their favorite two entries. I make no promises that our judging won't be heavily skewed towards those that go so far as to find the "right" outfit for said picture.

Why Guitar Hero Aerosmith Is Not a GH3 Download: DLC Provides Song But Not 'Experience'

Jun 03, 2008 11:26am CST tags: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, DLC, Guitar Hero 3
Limitations regarding downloadable content is the reason that the tracks of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith are a separate $60 release instead of DLC for Guitar Hero 3, according to Neversoft senior producer Chris Parise.

"I think DLC limits what you can do," Parise told Shacknews. "I think DLC means you have to have Xbox Live [on Xbox 360] or PlayStation Network [on PlayStation 3] Whereas I think your install base is still [mostly] PS2, they don't get [DLC]."

When asked about competitor Harmonix's strategy with Rock Band, which has the studio providing weekly PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 tracks as DLC and releasing a separate retail expansion for PlayStation 2 and Wii, Parise said that approach "gives you the song, but we're giving you the experience."

"All you're getting there is note tracks," he explained. "I don't think you can... Read more

Rock This Way With Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Feb 15, 2008 8:31am CST tags: Activision, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Vicarious Visions, Guitar Hero
Activision today announced that it will continue the Guitar Hero craze with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, due out in June for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

The game will put you in the shoes of the five member band, following their career from the first performance up till Aerosmith's current status of "rock royalty". As with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will be developed by Neversoft, with Vicarious Visions behind the Wii edition and Budcat handling the PlayStation 2 iteration.

"Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has puppies," commented Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler. Reports of an Aerosmith-centered Guitar Hero appeared last fall, with Activision recently confirming that three new Guitar Hero titles are due out this year.

"We've put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band's history," added guitarist Joe Perry.

To commemorate the announcement, owners of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will be able to download the Aerosmith song "Dream On" for free from the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network Store between February 16-18.
