Computer Using Slackers
The Dvorak has written up an interesting
article about computer obsessions. The basic premise is that there is a double
standard for people who spend all their time playing a game like basketball as opposed to
if that same person spent all their time playing a computer game.
Nevertheless, the kid shooting hoops for an extra 2 hours is seen as a hard worker, and the kid who plays computer games for an extra 2 hours is seen as a slacker. He or she is antisocial, too, as if the kid standing at the free-throw line shooting for hours and hours isn't.
Its kind of tough to separate stereotypes from truth. Thanks t0m.
