[Update: 15:55] Fables will come to PC, Mac and unspecified consoles in the first quarter of 2012, according to IGN.

[Original] Having already confirmed the talk of a game based upon comic series The Walking Dead, Telltale Games has now announced the other project that was expected--games based upon Bill Willingham's comic book Fables.

Telltale's keeping quiet about the project for now, revealing only that it has the license to make multiple, multi-platform games based upon Fables, and that it's thinking episodic. Further details are promised "later this year" and on a site that has not yet launched.

Created by Bill Willingham and published under DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, Fables revolves around fairytale and folklore characters who fled from their own world after it was invaded, ending up living in New York. It's also ruddy lovely, so this is jolly exciting.

"Bill Willingham's Fables brings everything we look for in a property to bring to episodic gaming," Telltale CEO Dan Connors said in the announcement. "Strong, iconic characters, deep, nuanced story arcs, and rich, fully realized worlds. This is a series that will work extremely well for the cinematic style of adventures that Telltale delivers."
