Sony Reveals Free, Tier-based Incentive Program 'PlayStation Rewards'

Sony has revealed plans to launch a new, free incentive program called PlayStation Rewards via the company's official blog.

According to a press release for the program, PlayStation Rewards will give members a number of exclusive PSN goodies, such as avatars, themes, and more. The program will also give members the opportunity to enter exclusive "sweepstakes and giveaways," the first of which could net a member an "all expenses paid trip" to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

For its initial launch tomorrow, Sony is inviting "highly engaged" PlayStation owners to test the new program in a closed beta environment. On the official PlayStation Blog, senior director of PlayStation Network added, "If you're a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards."

Although they sound similar, PlayStation Rewards and PlayStation Plus are not connected. "Rewards" members--again, it's free--will be grouped in one of three tiers: Select, Pro, and Legendary. Users can increase their "rank" by participating on PlayStation.com Forums and answering surveys, as well as downloading demos, using PlayStation Home, and purchasing content from the PlayStation store.

According to Sony, the program will be exclusive to the United States; however, the company is "looking into rolling out to Canada." More information is expected to arrive tomorrow when the official website for PlayStation Rewards launches. So, any interest in this generation's version of PlayStation Underground?
