StarCraft 2 DotA, Left 4 Dead, Bejeweled and Iron Chef Custom Map Homages Unveiled

The new StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty custom maps on show at BlizzCon that clearly reference Left 4 Dead, Bejeweled, DotA and television show Iron Chef are, it turns out, indeed loving homages to their source material, reborn in the medium of StarCraft II.

Blizzard All-Stars, for example, is clearly a Blizzard-themed take on the popular and oft-imitated Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne custom map Defense of the Ancients Allstars, featuring famed Blizzard characters such as Muradin and Slyvanas.

Left 2 Die is described as "a cooperative map where players hold out against hordes of zombies," featuring "special infected" with "special abilities" such as spewing and long-range tonguing. Players will earn currency to buy tech upgrades.

Aiur Chef recreates Iron Chef as a "free for all competition to 'cook' recipes," exploring the map to find ingredients and return them to Kitchen Stadium. Chairman Khala will, of course, watch over everything.

Lastly, Starjeweled turns PopCap's puzzler into "a 2v2 game that combines match-3 puzzle gameplay with tug-of-war style combat." Players will match blocks to purchase units and spells to attack their foes, assisted by hordes of marines.

While the maps are playable at BlizzCon, there's yet no word on when we hoi polloi at home will get to play the new maps. Brian is at BlizzCon and will report back with his impressions.
