Netflix Wii Discs in Short Supply for Canadian Users, Free One Month Offer Extended

4
Netflix has extended its free one month trial membership to Canadians users looking to utilize the Nintendo Wii as their primary streaming device. According to emails sent to Netflix users, streaming discs for the Nintendo Wii are in short supply and have seen a delay going to some new members.

In response, Netflix has decided to offer an extra week of free service to users who are forced to wait for the required disc. Users who managed to order before the supply was depleteted have already received notifications that Wii discs are in the mail.

"We recognize that this is not a great way to begin your Netflix membership," delay notification emails read. "So that you can thoroughly experience watching movies and TV episodes from Netflix via your Wii, we are extending your free trial by one week." Trial extensions will be done automatically.

Now the only thing Canadians wait for is word of the Xbox 360 application and an apology for the current crap crop of content available on the service in the Great White North.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in.]

Netflix is a brilliant service, but their CEO probably needs a public relations guy. He was asked why the Canadian service was cheaper than the American service, and instead of saying something that is factually correct and obvious, he cracked a joke that actually aggravated people. He said something like "Americans are self-absorbed and too stupid to notice what's going on in the world, so I'm not too worried about it."

The easier answer is: "The Canadian service does not currently include physical delivery of DVD's and Blu-Ray disks to your doorstep, so really all they're getting is the online streaming service."

Whether he's factually correct about Americans is not the point. When your cash cow is a service you sell to people, there is no value in tweaking the nose of your customers. You can be right 100%, and you're still wrong, because you're taking a risk with the franchise with absolutely no potential upside.

The only way these things happens is when the media wants people to get pissed off about something someone said. If you follow the news cycle on this you probably can't find the original unedited comment. You'll only find the media reporting it and that people are upset. Really? How did the general public find out about expect for the media reporting it first and claim that you, the reader, were upset about it. There's no such thing as news anymore.

Ya what? Because I saw an interview on TV with the guy, and he said exactly your 'easier' answer.
