First Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light DLC Free for '30 Days' Upon Launch on the Xbox 360

Square Enix brings good news to those looking forward to Lara Croft's first downloadable adventure. Following word that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light would see five downloadable content releases, Square Enix revealed the first content pack will be offered for free on the Xbox 360 for the first 30 days after launch, once it is released.

Presumably the decision was made to apologize to gamers that Lara's adventure would only see online co-op added in a title update after release. The Xbox 360 timed-exclusive is set to launch tomorrow as the final title in the 2010 Summer of Arcade promotion on Xbox Live.

"The launch of Guardian of Light is just the beginning," Crystal Dynamics general manager Darrell Gallagher said in a press release, "we have a lot of additional content planned and we will be offering the first DLC pack for free for the first 30 days, exclusively on the Xbox 360, so that gamers can get a taste of some of the exciting extras we have in store."

Square Enix has yet to announce a date for the downloadable content; however, our hope is that the first DLC makes its way online prior to the planned September 28 online patch release date.

i think for it to be a conspiracy, they'd have to have been more subtle or even covert about it

The game just isn't ready yet to be released in full. They had the opportunity to be included in the Summer of Arcade, so they decided to release it earlier then anticipated. But they couldn't possibly get everything done this fast, so they focussed on the base game to get the attention they deserve!
That's not dumb at all if you ask me =)
