Kane & Lynch 2 PC Confirmed to Use Steamworks; 10% Discount Available on Pre-Orders

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will use Valve's Steamworks for PC DRM, the publisher announced today. A 10% discount is also available through Steam for pre-order customers bringing the price down to $44.99.

As promised, the PC demo for the game has also been released through Steam. Previous Square Enix/EIDOS published PC games like Just Cause 2 and Supreme Commander 2 have utilized Steamworks DRM and have been digitally exclusive to Steam.

Steamworks is becoming more prevalent for big releases on the PC, though other digital retailers are choosing to sell some of them despite requiring Steam to be installed. Kane & Lynch 2 has not been listed for pre-order on any of Steam's competitors, but other Steamworks titles like Mafia II will be sold elsewhere.

Stardock remains committed to keeping Steamworks titles off of its Impulse digital distribution platform. Stardock has its own client, DRM solution Impulse Reactor, and self-published games including the upcoming Elemental: War of Magic.

Kane & Lynch 2 will use Steamworks for matchmaking, achievements, stats, and leaderboards. It will be released on August 17 for North America and on August 20 in Europe. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions will also be available for you console-warriors.

I'm about to load up the demo. I LOVED how it looked on the 360; we'll see how it handles on PC.
