Free Doctor Who Adventure Game Series Announced; Broken Sword Creator Onboard

13
Popular British sci-fi television series Doctor Who is to become a free downloadable episodic adventure game, the British Broadcasting Corporation announced today.

The two-hour episodes will put players in charge of time-travelling alien The Doctor and his new companion Amy, thrown into unusual adventures across the far corners of time and space to solve mysteries and defeat foes including the sinister Cybermen.

Broken Sword 4 co-developer Sumo Digital is handling development, overseen by Doctor Who personnel including head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat as well as Broken Sword and Beneath a Steel Sky creator Charles Cecil.

The first free episode will be released for PC and Mac in June 2010. In January the BBC unveiled plans to also create commercial games based upon its popular properties.

I think it's the right genre. Dr. Who's old-school and geeky so it deserves an old-school and geeky game genre.

I don't know. It has the series writers making the story, the full backing and funding of the BBC and both cast members doing the voices. What else have Sumo Digital made? I can't really judge them.

Just looked. Racing and casual games? We may be let down by the gameplay.

Well, they also did Broken Sword 4. The creator of the Broken Sword series and Beneath a Steel Sky founded the company so it might be ok.
