Break Media Acquires FileFront Network

Break Media, the media company that hosts a slew of male-geared entertainment websites, announced today that it is acquiring the gaming download and editorial site, FileFront.

According to the press release, Break Media plans to, "...invest significantly in the editorial components of the site, with an aim to provide both Break and FileFront users with additional premium gaming content." FileFront brings more than nine million unique monthly visitors, over 200,000 active forum users, and a network of more than 75 game-specific websites to Break media. The merger seems like a natural fit, given the demographic similarity and like-mindedness of the communities being combined.

"Gaming is a significant area of interest to our community and our brand partners," said Break Media CEO, Keith Richman. "Adding an established property like FileFront will help us cater more effectively to that interest and add immediate scale to our existing gaming efforts."

The acquisition is in line with Break Media's recent expansion into gaming, which began last month with the creation of a Shanghai-based development studio. The studio recently released the social game MMA FightPicker (the first of six planned for 2010), on Break's cage-fighting-themed site, CagePotato.com.

FileFront joins the stable of other male-centric Break Media websites, including Break.com, MadeMan, Chickipedia, HolyTaco, ScreenJunkies, and AllLeftTurns.

good for those guys on keeping the site alive. I emailed Jon Soucy back when they almost went down to tell him there were a lot of people supporting his team. Still one of my favorite places to download from (besides fileshack of course :-P)

I just hope they don't announce they intend to close it a year from now like it happened before.
