Bohemia Interactive's battlefield simulator ARMA 2 will receive free downloable campaign content as part of a large update scheduled for late December, the developer announced today.

The 'Eagle Wing' mini-campaign continues the story of one of ARMA 2's campaign endings a few years down the line in 2010, and sees players piloting the new AH-64 Apache attack helicopter in "two extensive new levels"

Patch 1.05 will also pack 'When Diplomacy Fails,' a new 'warfare' mode with "3-side support for diplomacy between all factions," as well as presumably yet more bug fixes.

A standalone expansion 'Operation Arrowhead' is also in the works, slated for 2010.

I finally went back to this game after the last 6 months of patches and finished the single player campaign. It's official campaign is finally playable without game breaking bugs.

I have now loaded up a player made campaign that is great fun - I have to laugh because it has no AI and missions transition bugs that I have seen yet - something the people who made the game utterly failed at.

I see huge potential for this game in the years ahead for anyone hardcore combat simulator fan. The modder fanbase is in full swing making lots of cool stuff. The engine itself has been pretty solid from day one. It's one glaringly horrid flaw was the single player experience that came packaged with it due to shoddy scripting of in campaign events. And that has been mostly fixed at this point as well. Mostly lol.

I can see myself picking up this content and the future expansion. I couldn't say as much 4-5 months ago.

It's an awesome game and a breath of fresh air from all the run and gun shooters. Looks fantastic on a decent rig. Community generated content and scenarios are going great. The game's replayability is huge. I am so glad I picked this over Operation Flashpoint 2.
