Xbox 360 Wireless N Adapter Out This Week

27
Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter revealed in September will hit North American shelves this week with a recommended price of $99.99.

The revision adds support for the 802.11n wireless protocol which Microsoft says will offer up to "two times the range and a speed seven times faster" than the previous adapter when used on an WiFi-n network.

The adapter will also work with older 802.11a, b and g networks, and naturally supports the WPA2 security protocol--a feature added only recently to the original version.

Joystiq reports that the recommended price of the original 802.11b/g-supporting Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter will be cut from $100 down to $80 "while supplies last."

I can see why announced this officially the week of release. An extra $100 purchase for your 360 to get it wireless? Not something they want to advertise. I already saw it in stores today when picking up MW2, stealth launch.

Anyone who games seriously does so on the fastest, best connection possible. For most that is ethernet. Where not possible wireless can do the job. It's just that the 360 didn't charge everyone for something they may not need the way the PS3 does. Sure they charged too much for the add-on, but that's life when buying 1st party peripherals. The upside of their leaving it out of the console is that it's upgradable. PS3 will be stuck with it's shitty Wireless G card forever while the new 360 N class will provide better than wired speeds for many, enabling real HD streaming and very fast gaming connections.

Haha, MS is lucky to have fans willing to justify it's nickel and diming way of doing business as well as the price gouging it practices on common peripherals.

nowhere did I justify it. It sucks pure and simple. They have a captive market and exploit it heavily. Point to one successful company that doesn't. I just said that's life.

If wireless would have made the 360 cost even $10 more I'm glad they left it out.

Nice try...but you can hook the PS3 up to any wireless N or whatever router which is what the 360 can also do. The nice addition for the PS3 is that it comes with wifi built in @ $299. The 360 is $299 without wifi and $350 (existing wifi adapter) or $399 (with new wifi adapter).

Sure you can hook a PS3 up but it runs at G speed. N is like 7 times the speed. Some folks are all about the speed. Me, I'll stick with my wire.
