Shack PSA: $50 Rebate on Xbox 360 Elite

34
Having cut the Xbox 360 Elite's price by $100 to $299 only last month, Microsoft today announced a USA-only $50 mail-in rebate on Elites bought between now and October 5.

Details on the rebate program's specifics beyond what the press release states are scant for now as its website is not due for launch until later today.

Brought down to $249 by the rebate, the Elite will briefly once again be cheaper than a PlayStation 3, after Sony launched the new trim PS3 Slim for $299 earlier this month.

Poor Sony, that's a pretty good deal and considering manufacturing costs, much easier for MS to do than Sony.

I think you've gotten it wrong my friend. I think it's more MS has all of a sudden noticed a lot of PS3's are flying off the shelves around the US and 360's barely moviing in retail stores. I know I've noticed it as well as the reports since the price drops.

Flying off shelves? Are you including the best buy deals that were offered as incentive for recent buyers not to return their fatty units?

Unlike all the 360 deals of the past. Put it this way, I own a fatty and a slim and won't be returning anything. I haven't heard of anyone returning the PS3's for any reason. I believe the reason for that was for those who bought a fatty within the month prior to the announced $100 price reduction. I live in MS country head quarters and all of the Best Buys out hear are 360 focused with the Wii and PS3 seeing second fiddle. The fact that the PS3 Slims can't stay on the shelves tells me that a lot of people have been waiting for a price drop while the 360 and Wii's are barely moving. The some of the store employees are surprised by the surge in PS3 sales.

So, yes...they are "FLYING OFF THE SHELVES"!

            >Unlike all the 360 deals of the past.

Never necessary for the 360 in the past.

            >Put it this way, I own a fatty and a slim and won't be returning anything.

I own a launch 60GB and the "real" MGS4 LE. I'm not returning them.

            >I haven't heard of anyone returning the PS3's for any reason.

What? I just told you the reason.

            >I believe the reason for that was for those who bought a fatty within the month prior to the announced $100 price reduction.

Yeah that is the reason. Evidently lots of people did exactly that--they returned their fatty PS3s the instant the slim was announced. But wait, I thought you hadn't heard about this for any reason?

            >So, yes...they are "FLYING OFF THE SHELVES"!

I'm just not seeing that anywhere. It has a lot more to do with the diminutive nature of the PS3 game rack in any given store than anything else.

Well that is what I get for not proof reading before submitting. That second point is incomplete. I meant that I haven't heard of anyone returning the fatty locally. It could have happened but the employees I know and have asked said that all 80GB and 160GB are gone and the slims continue to sell out. This is at 5 different stores. The other point is an assumption (4th item you've shown)...which I still haven't heard.

All I know is that the Best Buys in my area have been selling out of the slims...your area may be different. The truth will be in the numbers for September because word on the street is that the slims are selling 3 to 1 vs. 360. We'll see what is truth and what is not...

yeah 'cause Sony finally realized "hey, we might want to release more than the absolute bare minimum of quality exclusive titles."

I own both, I love both, I don't give a shit about sales figures as long as the good games keep comin'. At these prices, people have to be pretty cheap to own one and bitch about the other. If you don't have the money to buy the other, stop spendin' all of your time bitching about the other system and work to get a few extra bucks to buy it. Then it's win-win.

I mean "you" in general, not the comments to which I'm replying.
