Free MMO Dungeon Runners to Close

NCsoft's Dungeon Runners, a casual MMO in the style of World of Warcraft, will shut down on January 1, 2010 according to the dev team.

"Dungeon Runners just isn't cutting the mustard," wrote Dungeon Runners producer Stephen Nichols on the game's website, admitting that the MMO "just isn't profitable" and has "been taking on water for a long time now."

Dungeon Runners launched in May 2007, offering entirely free gameplay with an optional $5 subscription plan. Subscriber incentives included voice chat, experience bonuses and extra storage.

Nicholas says that current subscribers will receive a 30 day game time serial code and a free copy of City of Heroes Architect Edition and Guild Wars Prophecies for their trouble. The amount of experience and loot dropped in the game has also been boosted in the meantime, allowing players to more easily achieve their leveling dreams before the end.
