I've been looking for a new RPG. Anyone have an opinion on Mount & Blade (apart from name...yech!)

It's fun, but very clunky. It's like Sid Meier's Pirates, only set in medieval times and extremely clumsy and needlessly complicated in parts.

It seems needlessly complicated but that stems from the clumsy interface and no obvious way to complete some tasks. It is a great game if you can look past it's obvious flaws.

And weren't the original developers just 2 people?

This. It's basically the same concept as Pirates, except you're on land instead of the water, and combat consists of epic battles between hundreds of guys. If you have the Mount&Blade battle limit changer thingy mod, you can change the maximum number of soldiers that can participate in combat at the same time, at the risk of choking your computer.

The graphics definitely aren't anything to be impressed about, and it seems pretty amateurish. Probably because it was developed by a 2-person team (a couple) in Turkey or something like that. But it's a fun game if you enjoy games like Pirates, which I definitely do.

I'm waiting for the expansion. Warlords, I think it's called. I played the beta for Mount & Blade and thought it was pretty cool.

I don't know about Warlords, but they are coming out with Warband which will add multiplayer.

I agree I cannot think of a better melee combat system than Mount & Blade, I'd really like more games with that kind of melee/mounted combat.

Pondering whether to buy Mount and Blade or not is the biggest waste of time ever. Go for it, I've gotten literally thousands of hours out of that game, and I can see myself going back to it and doing it all over again once The Last Days is out.

i absolutely recommend you try it, at least the demo. like thebigbeefsandwich said, if you like the demo buy the full game immediately you wont regret it. if you dislike the demo, well... at least know that you didnt miss an opportunity to play a game you might have loved.

It's not a real RPG, it's a very good medieval mounted combat action game. One of my favourite games ever though if that kind of thing tickles your fancy
