Continuing to expand in the lucrative iPhone and iPod Touch gaming market, publisher Electronic Arts plans to bring a number of major franchises to the devices this year.

Those upcoming titles include the extreme snowboarding series SSX, Wolfenstein RPG, Red Alert, FIFA 10, Madden 10, NBA Live 10, American Idol, Spore Creatures, Clue, Risk, Mystery Mania, Connect 4, Battleship, Tiger Woods and Star Trek, according to reports from game journalist Patrick Klepek and Kotaku.

More details on the above games are expected in the coming hours, days and weeks.

I am happy to see EA embracing the iPhone as a gaming platform. EA's games on the iPhone are pretty damn good quality too. The designers of the SimCity game for the iPhone really pulled off the interface very well.

Yeah the only thing I don't like is how it takes over a minute to get into the game - just long enough for me to not go to it very often because I often only have small bursts of time to play games on my phone.

Me, too. The only caveat is with DLC in-game items. If EA should decide at any moment they want to disrupt the core gaming experience by forcing DLC in-game items on players, like a weapon that must be purchased to beat a game or something that a gamer must own to perform competently, that will be the day I never make another purchase.

Has anybody actually shipped that DLC yet? It'd be awful for any game, but so far I don't think anybody has shipped that...

Maybe they'd do it burnout paradise style. One of their DLC items unlocks every car in the game for you instead of having to do that by playing the game normally. That's a smart idea. It's like for the same people who want to buy level 20 or 30 WoW characters to get a head start.
