iPhone Gains DLC, Peer-to-Peer Multiplayer Support

The new version of the iPhone operating system will allow developers to sell in-game downloadable content, according to an Engadget liveblog from today's Apple conference.

Apple noted that in order to avoid abuse of the system, only paid applications will be able to sell downloadable content.

Also coming with the update is support for peer-to-peer multiplayer gaming.

"With the new APIs, you can bring up a standard system panel which finds other touches or iPhones which are in the same app," said Apple's Scott Forstall. "You form an IP connection, and you can game together. This will automatically discover running apps, wirelessly over Bluetooth."
