A new edition of Virtua Tennis will be released this May, Sega announced today.

New this year is a fully integrated online ranking system for the series' World Tour Mode, and Sega also promises improved volleying, serving and net play, as well as player stumbling.

Virtua Tennis 2009 will feature on- and offline singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches, as well as Davis Cup play and a number of minigames that the series is known for. In those Court Games, don't be surprised to see "crocodiles, fruit and pirates."

Licensed players this year include Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams, Andy Murray and Ana Ivanovic.

The game will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and as a download for PC.
