Three New Spore Games Announced: Spore Hero, Arena, Creature Keeper

17
During a Spore "State of the Universe" event last night, EA Maxis announced three new Spore games that will hit stores this year, making for a total of four Spore titles to be released in 2009.

The newly announced games include Spore Hero (Wii) and Spore Hero Arena (DS), casual adventure titles that will see players directly controlling creatures as they follow a story arc. It's more action and less creation, all set on a crafted planet--but gameplay details beyond that were scarce. The Spore Hero games will hit this fall.

A stand-alone PC game, Spore Creature Keeper is essentially a virtual pet game for kids. Creatures will inhabit a "home," with players upgrading the creature and its surroundings. A multiplayer mode will allow for creature interaction. A screenshot was shown of a creature running on a treadmill inside a small, modern home.

Creature Keeper is expected to be released in early summer.

We also got a closer look at the first full expansion for the PC version of Spore, Galactic Adventures, which is due out in the vicinity of March. More on that later today.

And EA is at it again. Spewing out an endless supply of "expansions" that are adding nothing but a new box to look at and the "why the hell did I buy this?"-feeling.

If this is what they need to do so they can justify spending money on riskier games, so be it.

Except they don't really spend money on more interesting / niche or business wise "riskier" games.

They're financing a sequel to Mirror's Edge, a relatively experimental game which bombed pretty fucking hard for a variety of reasons and fell ludicrously short of sales expectations. If that's not risky business-wise you'll have to explain to me what is.

Yes, apparently 1.5 million sold is a 'disaster'. I'd love to know what the dev budget was, how much could it possibly cost to copy/paste and inflate tits?

By the sounds of it these aren't expansions at all they are completely new Spore games. Yea I hate companies that try to make money and try to make games for a different crowd then myself. All games should be made for me especially since they force me to buy them.

I don't care if the milk the Sims franchise or the Spore franchise, those games were made to be milked. Let them make their money there, if people are willing to buy it and it lets them create new/interesting stuff.
