New Xbox Experience Beta Signups Open

11
Delivering on a promise teased earlier this week, Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has revealed to Xbox 360 fans a way into a sneak preview of the New Xbox Experience, the dashboard overhaul due November 19.

Users can now sign up at Microsoft Connect for a chance at early access to the Experience, which will give selected users the ability to download the dashboard ahead of the November 19 rollout.

Microsoft is offering up the spots for testing purposes, so the sign-up form is a survey asking for information including internet connection, media streaming, Netflix subscriptions and so on. Potential testers will need their Console ID, which can be viewed on the console in the Settings menu, under System Information.

More detailed information on who gets in, courtesy the Major, follows:

  • We're looking for a few thousand participants, so your chances of making it in are good.
  • This opportunity is open to all Xbox LIVE Members in regions where Xbox LIVE is available.
  • Just completing the survey does not automatically get you access to the NXE. We'll be making final selections from from the completed surveys.
  • Xbox LIVE Gold and Silver members can sign up. Priority will be given to Gold members in the selection process.

From what I've heard/read you can enable the old interface if you like it better.

I keep reading exact opposite ideas of what is fact and what isn't.

User A: You can use the old if you don't like the new.

User B: You can only use the new.

Repeat the above x amount of times for the sake of torture.

From what I have seen around, you have to use the new interface, but the blades is now under the guide button and you can circumvent the whole new interface by just using that all the time.... if that makes sense.

This has gotten twisted around a bit.

The NXE is mandatory update, as is every dashboard update! You can choose not to install it for now, but starting in the Spring, when you pop in a game, it will force you to install the dashboard or else you will not be able to play the game. This is how all dashboard updates work.

What was originally meant was that if you don't like the interface, the new guide is very similar to the old one, so simply use the guide now if you like that. However, you still have to install NXE.

Correct. You still have a blade like system that you access using the home button on the controller.
