Developer Konami has announced that a new entry in its vampire-slaying Castlevania franchise in is development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, reports ITmedia.

Few details are known at this point. Following a brief teaser trailer depicting a well-dressed man with a glowing red sword, series producer Koji Igarashi commented that he hadn't expected the game to be announced yet.

The new title will mark the first Castlevania game designed for the PS3 and Xbox 360. While the franchise traditionally has players exploring a 2D or 3D castle, the series is soon expanding into the fighting genre with Castlevania Judgment (Wii).

Although being a bit dull in the beginning, I actually liked Lament of Innocence a lot more than SotN, so I hope this new game will be in the same vein. Curse of Darkness was OK aswell, but not quite as good a either SotN or LoI..
