Watch the Far Cry 2 Map Editor In Action

20
The map editor in Ubisoft Montreal's Far Cry 2 will be supported by an online sharing and ranking network. Users will be able to rate their favorite multiplayer maps and download the more popular ones, ensuring less time wasted on junkier levels.

The below trailer offers a glimpse of the editor's level creation tools.

Far Cry 2 is planned for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year. For more information on the map editor, check out our recent interview with Far Cry 2 creative director Clint Hocking.

This is very cool. Since Warcraft 2 I'd hope more developers would be out more friendly, easy to use editors and although games today obviously are much more complex than Warcraft I didn't understand why more editors couldn't be something like well, what was demonstrated in this video. Looks very promising.

The Oblivion construction set is one of the easier to use that I've seen. I mean, it does have a curve but when compared to other tools, the CS is fairly simple to use.

I agree. Source needs this really bad. Imagine the quality maps for TF2, Portal, CSS, DODS etc that could be churned out. There's way too much shit with those games as far as custom maps go. :(

Source is completely different, since it focuses on small maps, runs on old computers, and generally hates the outdoors. Most of the benefit here is from being able to quickly deposit pre-made props over an area, and the rapid terrain carving, neither of which thus suits Source games. They haven't yet shown anything for making vertically-oriented levels or, hell, even just customised buildings in Dunia.

Still, a more user friendly level editor would be a worthwhile addition i think, as there are tonnes of people who have amazing ideas & would love to make maps etc. for the source games but the Hammer editor is just an absolute mission, unless you really study it and learn everything, its like they made it to be as un-user friendly as possible, well at least to people who aren't experienced in that area.

If they build a half decent easy to use, yet full featured map editor there would be a tonne of decent maps for all there games, but as it stands, only a limited number of maps are getting made which are generally poor maps anyway, I've only played a handful of well made TF2 community made maps, far less then I anticipated for a popular MP Source game. I imagine the same will occur with L4D as well, not that i care.
