Rumor: Left 4 Dead Headed to PlayStation 3

10
Much like the undead, rumors of a PS3 release of Left 4 Dead just won't stay down.

According to a brief aside in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magainze, "Left 4 Dead is coming to PS3, but EA will be taking on development duties in-house."

At present, Valve's cooperative-focused zombie-killing shooter is slated for to hit PC and Xbox 360 on November 4. Valve's last PS3 release, The Orange Box, was ported by EA UK and was oft-criticized for performance issues not found in the PC and 360 releases.

It's not the first time that media outlets have mentioned PlayStation 3 version of Left 4 Dead, with listings having previously appeared via publications GamePro and EGM.

Following the last round of rumors, project leader Mike Booth denied the claims, telling fansite Left4Dead411 that "Left 4 Dead is not currently in development for the PS3."

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Considering the fiasco that is PS3 Orange Box, and this makes use of the same engine that really doesn't seem optimized for the PS3, I'm gonna call BS on this one. And wishful thinking. This really is only gonna be good on the PC anyway. Can't even fathom trying to make a game this fast paced work with thumbsticks.

I've heard that the source engine wasn't ever made compatible with the cell processor even when the Orange Box came out for PS3, and isn't even now.

It's likely that the performance issues with the PS3 version of the Orange Box come from just not bothering to program for the PS3 at all.

If it wasn't so cockarse difficult to multicore program. Perhaps devs would be more inclined to do it.

Yeah but didnt valve trumpet their multicore threading of source over a year ago?

I guess valve time strikes again, TF2 dosent even make use of multiple cores (other than a slight amount of threading for particle effects)
