Gran Turismo 5 May Not Arrive Until 2010

The fifth full-fledged entry in Polyphony Digital's racing simulation series Gran Turismo may not hit PlayStation 3 until 2009 or 2010, according to studio founder Kazunori Yamauchi.

"There's no plans in the works for GT5 yet--that might be 2009, or it might be 2010," Yamauchi told IGN. "But we're totally focused on getting the updates through for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and that's all we're focused on."

Prologue is set to gain several new features, including vehicle damage and video content, later this year. Released in North America this past spring, the $39.99 Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is meant as teaser to the eventual Gran Turismo 5, packing 60+ vehicles and six tracks.

As for the long-awaited PSP edition of Gran Turismo, originally announced in 2004, Yamauchi informed Joystiq that the portable version is likely to arrive after GT5.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

    Ahahaha

Probably needed to put in an actual damage model that isn't superficial.

Oh, and focusing on content for GT5: Prologue? WORK ON YOUR FUCKING GAME and not the demo for your game.

Seriously. I think it's okay when developers release content in smaller chunks, like Valve does with their Half-Life episodes, but only if they release it with a significant amount of content. I'm a huge driving game and Gran Turismo fan, but I really don't give a shit about Prologue. Vehicle damage could be really cool, but I don't want to test their demo with only 6 tracks and 60 vehicles.

They are working on their game. The changes made to Prologue are also applicable to GT5. Don't be dumb.

Yeah. I thought the whole point of Prologue was to 1) hold us over and 2) act as a testbed for GT5.

As good as it looks, it's going to take alot of time for them to get a convincing damage model. In this case a delay isn't such a bad thing. We've got prologue to keep us entertained while they bust their asses getting the damage right.
