Spacetime Obtains Blackstar IP, Resurrects Game

Following the cancellation of Blackstar (PC) earlier this year, developer Spacetime Studios announced that it has acquired the rights to its space-faring MMO from former publisher NCSoft.

"After two years of development, the Blackstar universe is quite near and dear to our hearts," said Spacetime co-founder Gary Gattis. "Owning the IP as well as the engine and tool set puts a tremendous amount of potential in our hands. With all the developed components under the Spacetime team's control, the options for the IP are diversified."

Spacetime now fully owns the tools, technology, and intellectual property from their previous publishing deal with NCSoft. The developer described the title—now dubbed Blackstar Chronicles—as a space fantasy combat game in the vein of Origin Systems' Wing Commander with a multiplayer feel similar to Volition's Descent: FreeSpace.

The studio has not yet disclosed who will be publishing Blackstar Chronicles or when the title is expected for release.
