So what constitutes a minority? Do they mean non-asian minorities? Otherwise known as NAMs?

        yeah pretty much.
I'm a white male, so I must have people lining up to give my broke-ass a hand.

You know how I got through school? Loans and credit cards, nobody helped me one iota.

Nor more then any game development company I've seen hire women just because they need to meet a quota no matter how incompetant they are.

You guys are missing the point. This is more to get people of different backgrounds into game development. I think there are plenty of white men in the field.

Thats ridiculous. Thats doing something for the sake of doing it. Why does it matter what background you are from. This scholarship isn't going to "get different backgrounds into game development". Does it really matter that there are 'plenty of white men in the field.' What does that matter to people that might want to get into that AREN'T in it.

But why do we need different backgrounds in ANY career field? Maybe they dont WANT to. You cant force them, but instead they bribe them. Its like complaining that there are not enough Whites or Asians in the NBA. Do we create special incentives for them too?

Further, you cannot create ingenuity. When it comes to game development, either you have skill, or you dont. It doesnt matter if you are a boy or girl, or black/white/red/purple or what friggin country you come from.
And despite what your teacher tells you, you cant have a perfect "melting pot" in every career. its not normal...its not how things work.
And thats not racist, or sexist, its just the truth.
I mean whats next...the ratio between the races isnt the same, so they will start having "breeding quotas" too?
        its freaking stupid.

Because studies have proven that a well diverse group of gender, race, backround, etc. leads to different ideas.

Any groups of any people lead to different ideas. Are you telling me that a group of X people are going to constantly come up with the same ideas over and over just because they are X people? I understand the 'different cultures' thing might bring different ideas, but still. To be honest, I am simply not interested in some cultures. I think they are boring or not rationally grounded in reality. I am not interested in eastern philosophy for instance. But if someone else wants to be interested in that, thats fine, its just not what I'm doing. This gets me back to this globalization nonsense.

From now on all baskets made by white men in the NBA will be worth one additional point. All baskets made by Asians are worth 2 additional points. Women still have their own league cause no one wants to watch that shit.

Fuck that, we need more talented and imaginative developers period. I don't give three fucks about the skin color or gender of the person doing the work, because it's the work that really matters.

If the uni is in Canada and the students are Canadians it might. It would pay for a semester's tuition at least. Well four years ago it would.

$3000 makes a difference for a student who, due to various social stigmata or lack of positive reinforcement, might not otherwise consider a game development education as a feasible option. the goal here is not to give a few lucky students a free ride so they can get passing marks and sit in their apartments all day, it is to provide extra encouragement for that student who has skills and interests that line up with those related to a career in game development and who is trying to decide what to study.

as crushing as they are, anyone can sign away 50 years of their life to student loans if they have a strong motivation to get a certain degree. that's not what these scholarships are about.
