Capcom Reveals Resident Evil Zero Wii Port (Updated)

Update: Capcom VP of business development Christian Svensson has stated that the Resident Evil Zero port for the Wii will be released only in Japan, noting that there are presently no plans for a Western release of the title.

"I bet we see all sorts of complaints about that fact, after pages of outrage on this forum and others that the title even exists," wrote Svensson on the official Capcom message boards. "We simply can not win."

Original story: According to the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Capcom is planning to bring a port of its zombie-slaying prequel Resident Evil Zero to the Wii in the summer of this year.

Chronologically situated just prior to the original in the series' timeline, Resident Evil Zero was originally released on Nintendo's GameCube in late 2002. The port will receive no graphical updates or gameplay tweaks in its jump to the Wii, but will feature some undisclosed Wii Remote functionality.

Though Capcom's revamp of Resident Evil 4 (GCN, PC, PS2, Wii) for the Wii was easily integrated with the pointing and motion features of the Wii Remote, it is yet unclear as to how the new hardware will be implemented with Resident Evil Zero, which is built upon the series' classic control scheme and fixed camera angles.

Famitsu guessed that you'll be able to play it one-handed which likely means point and click or something.

They have this great RE4 engine. It's a proven engine on both GameCube and Wii. I don't know why they're so scared to use it again. That would be the way I'd go.
