Nintendo, GameStop Create Wii Raincheck Program
Under the program, GameStop customers who pay for the system in full between December 20 and 21 will, supply permitting, receive a voucher that can be redeemed for the console in January. Traditionally, GameStop only allows customers to pre-order unreleased products.
Despite retailers selling nearly a million Wii in November, the system is still incredibly hard to come by. Over a year after launch, potential owners will still line up overnight outside retailers for their chance to buy one--a practice that is usually only seen when a system is first released.

My local Wal-Mart got 17 of them in 4 days ago, and there were still plenty on the shelves as of yesterday. I've gotta say that this shortage puzzles me a bit.

I have, to this day, never seen a single Wii on any store shelves in Calgary, Alberta. I heard them announce that a shipment had a arrived over the store intercom while I was in Walmart, but that's it. They sold out immediately, and that was probably three months ago. Still nothing. I'm glad I camped out on launch, I love the system.

My wife was in Wal-Mart one day when they got in 9 or 10 in a shipment. A woman tried to buy 2 and was told the policy was one per customer. The woman huffed off saying saying she would go find someone to buy the second one for her, not buying the one first. She got back with her friend to buy two of them just as a man with an uncontrollable grin walked past her prominently displaying his purchase- the last Wii of the shipment.
So they are flying off the shelves. Go to an online retailer and try to find one. No one has them. If your local store has 17, buy them all and eBay them for $1000 each.
