Rock Band Priced and Dated, PS2 Version Also Coming This Year

32
Following months of rampant price speculation over the Rock Band Special Edition bundle, MTV's Multiplayer blog revealed today the package will retail for $169.99 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and hit stores November 23. The PlayStation 2 version previously scheduled for 2008 release will squeeze into stores this year as well on December 10, and for $10 less than the other bundles at $159.99.

As previously noted, the bundles will all include the game, a plastic guitar modeled after Fender's Stratocaster, a drum kit, and a microphone. The blog post also confirms the Xbox 360 bundled guitar will be wired, with wireless axes packaged with both the PS2 and PS3 bundles. But a 360 wireless guitar "will be available at a later date."

The $170 price point is actually less than most outlets had predicted, as Amazon.com had priced preorders of the bundle at $200 earlier this year. The site has already updated its listing with the new prices and release dates.

Rocking out on a wireless guitar just feels wrong though.

Yeah, especially since I have a 65" HDTV, and when playing GH2 on 360, I'm a bit closer to the screen than I'd like to be. Looks like I'll get the PS3 version.

I have an extension cable for my GH2 controller, but I simply do not want to buy another wired one of these things.

Yeah.. Wireless would be nice, but hey, I jam with cord on my real guitar so I can live with it.

You can buy a REALLY GOOD wireless guitar system for$ 3-500. Any band not using them is either REALLY poor, or still using a cord for effect. Any serious band uses everything wireless these days.

because the PS3 uses bluetooth and isn't a propietary techonolgy like the one that the 360 uses for its controllers.

The 360 bundle comes with a USB hub so you can plug all the stuff in at the same time.

This needs to be on the front page.

Um it only comes with the hub because the 360 has 2 USB ports on the front. the PS3 has 4, and wireless guitars. This isn't a feature, its just required to make it work on the 360.

It probably also kinda functions as a cable extension. If I only have to be within 6 feet of the center of the room instead of 6 feet from the xbox, that's a lot better.
