NHL 2K8 Demo Hits Xbox Live

2

Xbox Live Marketplace-savvy hockey fans can now download a demo of Visual Concepts' NHL 2K8, the only alternative to the EA Canada-developed NHL 08. Both NHL 2K8 and the rivaling NHL 08, which has its own downloadable XBLM demo, are already in stores.

I have this rented right now and from what little I have played with it, I do like it. I finally figured out how to slapshot (LT [mod] + Y), so that helped.

The natural flow of the players feels a lot better on the ice and when passing, instead of how rigid it was in 2k7 and previous titles. The new control scheme and 'Pro Stick' is quite a change for me since I'm used to how 2k3 and 2k7 do it with the A,B,X,Y and such...so that'll take a while to re-wire my brain as well. Graphically this game is really nice to look at, especially the player faces (110% difference from last year) and jerseys. New skating animations and 'Pro' moves make this game quite fun.

Something that irritated me with 2k7 was how long the Goalie kept the puck in his glove before the Ref blew the whistle. It's been toned down (I think), but not nearly enough. If the Goalie catches it and holds it for more than 1-2 seconds, the whistle should blow...not this 5-8 second bullshit where he might toss it back on the ice for his team.

Definitely worth a go if you liked 2k7.

You can usually tweak how aggressive the goalies are at freezing the puck.
