First, the Xbox 360 material:
Stainless Games' Xbox 360 version of Atari's classic Missile Command hit Xbox Live Arcade last week, priced at 400 Microsoft Points ($5). Containing the arcade original and an updated mode with modern graphics and slightly tweaked gameplay mechanics, Missile Command is what one would expect from any past experience with the series.
The biggest change in the updated version of Missile Command is that destroyed missiles no longer seem to have as large of an explosion as they did in the original, which makes chaining the explosions a bit more difficult.
I really can't think of much else to say about Missile Command, other than it's Missile Command. Those who have played the original know what to expect. Unlike Namco's surprising recent Pac-Man Championship Edition, there are not any significant additions or changes to warrant another purchase, and it's doubtful those who mastered the original will find much incentive to proceed when the free trial expires. The latest version of the GarageGames' Torque Game Engine and tools for Microsoft XNA development has been released. Members of Microsoft's XNA Creators Club can acquire a free copy of Torque X Builder, a 2D visual editor and toolset, from the club's website.
Priced at $99 a year, XNA Creators Club membership allows Xbox 360 owners to compile and play XNA Game Studio Express-made games on the console, opening up the platform to hobbyist developers.- A new map pack for Ubisoft Montreal's Rainbow Six Vegas temporarily appeared on the Xbox Live Marketplace last week at 800 Microsoft Points ($10), disappeared, and then reappeared Saturday for free. The Black Pack contains five maps, three of them brand new to the series. Meanwhile, the existing Red Pack is now available for free as well.
- New content is on the way for Bizarre Creations' Boom Boom Rocket. According to Bizarre's official site, the explosion-heavy rhythm game will receive five new tracks of greater difficulty than the original game. The genre of music, pricing, and release date have yet to be revealed.
- More maps are available for Day 1 Studios' Xbox 360 version of Monolith's F.E.A.R. The Nightmare Pack adds four--Heliport, Spill Kill, Asylum, and Cafeteria--for 500 Microsoft Points ($6.25).
- Six new historic stadiums are up on Xbox Live Marketplace for Kush Games' Major League Baseball 2K7. The three two-stadium bundles sell for 300 Microsoft Points ($3.75)--packaging Sportsman's Park and Forbes Field, Griffith Stadium and Shibe Park, or Polo Grounds and Crosley Field--or all together for 800 Microsoft Points ($10).
