Microsoft Revamps Xbox 360 Warranty

28
Since Xbox 360's release last November, the internet has seen countless reports of various hardware issues experienced by early adopters. Due to these continued concerns, Microsoft compensated owners for the repair costs of faulty pre-2006 consoles. Criticisms of Xbox 360's reliability continued, however, and a lawsuit was filed this month.

Now, Microsoft has taken what it likely hopes is the conclusive step in repairing a damaged quality reputation with the gaming community and satisfying existing Xbox 360 owners, including those who have already faced hardware issues as well as those who fear they still might. As of today, the company has retroactively extended the machine's warranty from the included 90 days of coverage to a full year. All Xbox 360 owners now possess a warranty that covers system problems for the first year following purchase. As a result, any owners who were forced to pay for repairs within a year of purchasing the system will automatically receive a refund by mail in approximately ten weeks.

"Customer satisfaction is a central focus and priority for the Xbox 360 system," said corporate marketing VP Jeff Bell. "In addition to jaw-dropping features such as high-definition graphics, an amazing catalog of over 160 games, and social online and entertainment experiences on Xbox Live., the Xbox 360 system now offers this extended warranty upgrade. It is truly the industry's most compelling home entertainment offering."

Xbox 360 owners who experience problems during their warranty period are encouraged to contact Xbox support. Let's hope our buddy Silent Wolf gets a fatty check.
