Following last week's announcement of the Independent Games Festival main competition award nominees, this week show officials have revealed the four winners in the Independent Games Festival Modding Competition. The awards are assigned across four broad gameplay categories, each consisting of multiple games; those winners will go on to vie for the overall IGF Best Mod honor presented at Game Developers Conference held at San Francisco's Moscone Center in March 2007.

Best Singleplayer FPS Mod went to Cut Corner Company Productions' Weekday Warrior, based on Half-Life 2. Best Multiplayer FPS Mod was given to ES Team's Eternal Silence, also based on Half-Life 2. Ossian Studios' Neverwinter Nights-derived Darkness over Daggerford took the nod for Best RPG Mod. Finally, LudoCraft received the nod for Best Other Mod for its UT2004 modification Spawns of Deflebub.

The competition had over three dozen qualified participants based on over a dozen different games of many genres. Each of the four finalist teams will receive $500 towards travel to the GDC, while the overall winner will receive a prize of $5,000.

Eternal Silence was cool, but I could never find a full server. Piloting controls are a bit weird but the game has awesome potential. Congrats.
