As was mentioned last week, AMD is capable of pushing out 1GHz CPUs at any time. Well they just proved it. AMD just put out a press release about 45minutes ago announcing that they just got a 1.1GHz Athlon CPU off of their assembly lines in Dresden Germany and demonstrated it. The CPU is using the new 0.18micron and on-die L2 cache.

The demonstration featured the newest version of the AMD Athlon processor that integrates high-performance on-die Level 2 (L2) cache. The device is manufactured utilizing AMD's leading-edge HiP6L 0.18 micron process technology featuring copper interconnects. The demonstration required no special cooling techniques...
