First Post!
As those of you probably wanting to attend saw yesterday, the CPL announced a delay of of registration of the Razer / CPL event in April because of heavy loads that caused the registration software to fail. I can't believe this is happening to so many big LAN events. It looks so stupid. It's happened before and now it's still happening. You are shooting for around a 1000 people at attend. That means more than a thousand will try and register. That means on the day that you open registration more than a thousand people will hit your site at the same time for multiple times. A lot of processes will be started. That = not good. Install mod_perl, it will help. Sure it may still slow down a whole lot, but it will help. Also configure your Apache right. There, I'm done :)
note by Steve: It was actually the 3rd party credit card authentication server that couldnt handle the load. Not CPL's servers. You can also see a comment (#23) here by Angel Munoz, the CPL president.
