The Da Vinci Game Announced

10
2K Games and Sony Pictures announced today that developer The Collective will be adapting the film adaptation of Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code for PS2, Xbox, and GameCube. The Collective, a frequent LucasArts collaborator, is currently also working on Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure (PS2, Xbox, PC) for Atari. While the studio's pedigree doesn't seem eminently suited for what one would assume will be an adventure game, fears are allayed by the presence of Revolution's Charles Cecil, who will be designing the game. With Revolution Studios, which recently stripped itself down to basically a design-only studio rather than handling full-scale development, Cecil was responsible for such games as the Broken Sword series and Beneath a Steel Sky (PC, AMI). Most recently, the studio shipped Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon, which took the series into full real-time 3D and, while not perfect, was a competent and enjoyable take on the traditional adventure genre using modern technology.

The Collective has made a name for itself as a solid if not remarkable studio, but with Cecil's design prowess behind the wheel, The Da Vinci code could very well turn out to be a better than usual film/book adaptation. Like the film, the game is set for a worldwide May 2006 release.
