Sunday Afternoon ShackReviews

It may be Chanukah, but I still have to update the ShackReviews database. With the holiday flood behind us, this week we've got seven mostly older titles, including at least one that I can't believe I missed the first time around. As usual, if there's a game you want to review but don't see in the database, check first and then submit it! (And don't blame me if a game you never submitted isn't added!)

We still haven't come to a consensus for the new grading system for ShackReviews 2.0, but Maarten and I have tossed a few solid ideas back and forth, and I think what we eventually decide on will satisfy at least the majority of you (let's face it, we can't please everyone). To anyone that suggested that we do away with ratings completely, well...that's just silly. Not that I don't prefer grade-less reviewing (on loonygames, we never had grades and chose to let the review speak for itself) but the fact is that most people want, and more importantly expect to see a rating at the end. It may be superfluous in longer reviews, but for quick reviews, they're a necessary evil. Speaking of which, one of the ideas I'm kicking around is the possibility of letting people review games more than once. Meaning every person could do two reviews: one labeled as a "first impression" followed by a full review, or a full review and then later a "second opinion." I'm not sure if the other Shack crew backs me up on this one, but it's something I'm considering. I think for certain games, it would make sense, especially for something like Unreal 2, which you may have reviewed at launch but could now go back and re-visit now that the XMP add-on is out. Again, it's not a definite thing, but I'm tossing it around. Any suggestions for this or other features are much appreciated.
