I've been holding off on buying Dragon Age: Origins because I cannot afford to be sucked into a huge, long and engrossing video game right now. Especially as I just bought Interplay's reissue of Planescape: Torment.

$30 (actually eighteen of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Great British Pounds Sterling as it's only in Europe, but this website is bigoted and refuses to recognise the legitimacy of my currency) for a simple re-release of a decade-old game has never been such a bargain. I only played a borrowed copy so this is pure joy in my hands.
I'm sorry, Dragon Age. I'm sure you are a very pleasant video game but surely you understand? Good. I'm glad. See you in a month or two, Internet.
Reminder for evening meet menz: Bring booze! Everybody needs to bring one thing, like a 12 pack of beer or a bottle of hard liquor or something. If you want to bring a snack or something to share that's extra great but not required.
Reminder for PAINTBALL menz: It is important that you bring the following:
+ CASH so we can split the cost of paint. You can pay for your personal stuff with a card.
+ A CHANGE OF CLOTHING. It's looking like it might be muddy so you're going to want to have extra pants and a shirt just in case! Not to mention of course the paint you'll get on your clothing. You can rent camo there ($5) which fits over your clothing which will help, but a change of clothing is still a good idea. You will be able to shower and change at my house before Moylan's.

Im going to fetch me some flying dog and play some Dragon Age.
I am needing some more DPS, currently im a fire/heal mage, have Morrigan, Alistar and shale. Im thinking of swapping Alistar for Zevron/Sten. The thing is Zevron usually falls like a bitch, so is Sten pretty good for DPS?

I had two of my best rounds to date back to back last night. First I went 68-22 in HQ pro on scrapyard. 5 care packages, 3 harriers and two chopper gunners. The second match I went 30-6 on scrapyard again, this time playing demolition. I started out 1-4, but went on a tear getting another chopper gunner and a 25 kill streak (didnt have the nuke on though :( ).
I think Ive finally found my best killstreak loadout:
-Care package (4 kills)
-Harrier (7 kills)
-Chopper gunner (11 kills)
I used to use the predator missile (care package -> predator -> harrier) but I found that in general it really really sucks. You might get lucky with 2+ kills occasionally, but its not good enough to boost you into the upper tier killstreak rewards. I am finally getting used to the flow of the game to produce 2-3:1 KD ratios and take advantage of the higher killstreak rewards.
I fucking love this game!

You know I have been really impressed with Windows 7 and I started to think you guys are finally getting it. At the very least your more of the superfluous, eccentric peripheral applications are becoming optional instead of built-in.
I started to trust you and let my guard down.
In a momentary lapse of judgment I clicked Typical Install for Office Pro beta and now I have a smiley face and a frown face in my taskbar.
Seriously? Who thinks this is a good idea on any level. i will bet money some laid-off former AOL flunkie thought this gem needed to be here.
Dammit! Thinks were rally starting to get cozy and now I see there are some web 1.0 hold-outs muddying the well. Smiley faces are great for bumper stickers and blotter acid. Please keep them off my desktop.

For Stardock, the more significant shock of Demigod has been the discovery of the low number of PC gamers who play strategy games online. Demigod’s single player experience, while decent, did not get anywhere near the care that the Internet multiplayer experience did. Despite this, only 23% of people who have purchased Demigod have ever even attempted to logon to play Internet multiplayer.
Demigod continues to sell thousands of copies weekly – enough to remain at retail during the Christmas season despite it coming out last Spring – but the number of people available to play online is typically less than 2,000 at a given time. This is in stark contrast to MMORPGs and FPS’s which tend to have very large online communities.

Fallout I and II
I haven't even touched any of the sequels since I want to finish their predecessors first. I'd to stick to one of these series and play it all the way through. What would be your top choice?

HELP COMPUTAH? Trigger-Pulling Advice requested!
Fuck my computer. It's been crashing more and more frequently, and after some basic troubleshooting I think I've determined it's a hardware problem and not worth fixing (bad mobo, or bad RAM) since it's an old Athlon 64, 2GB RAM, 7800GT.
So now I'm thinking, "Fuck it, I'll just do it live build a new one." My goal: ROCK-FUCKING-SOLID system capable of playing games in the last few years, although I've largely switched over to my recently acquired Xbox 360 and PS3 for gaming. The PC will mostly be used for web surfing, serving media content over my home network, and playing games where the PC version is superior to the console version. Cheap is good.
What do you think of the following build, which is largely copied from The Tech Report's recommended "Utility Player" Fall 209 build:
Intel Core i5-750 ($199.99)
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R ($139.99)
Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 ($88.99)
HIS Radeon 4890 ($159.99 after MIR)
I'm planning on reusing my Lian-Li case (assuming the 4890 fits into it), 640GB Western Digital HD, OCZ 600W PSU, Auzentech sound card, Plextor DVD±RW, etc. I have a new Win7 Home upgrade that I haven't yet installed, so I'll use that for the OS.

For example, the BD-P1600 loaded "Mission: Impossible III" in just 16 seconds, compared with 21 seconds on the Panasonic DMP-BD60. The differences are even greater on discs with elaborate menus; the Samsung loaded "Spiderman 3" in a minute and 3 seconds, compared with a minute and 27 seconds on the DMP-BD60. Beside just disc loading, we found the BD-P1600 to be considerably more responsive than most Blu-ray players--and nearly as speedy as the PS3

I'm a nerd, and I want cool things on my desk. Nothing too hardcore or IN YOUR FACE, but I want some cool things to put on my desk. For reference: Kratos is awesome, but a little too "in your face" for a office desk.
Are there TF2 action figures ? ratchet and clank ones ? Something obscure and awesome ?

For whatever reason, the stupid thing hangs on dns resolution or sometimes doesn't render the page properly at all. I've turned off ipv6 in Win 7 just in case this is the issue, but it still happens, a lot. Sometimes it wont resolve dns at all.
The weird thing about it is that neither FF or IE have this problem, at all, everything works fine. Anyone else had issues with Chrome like this?

1. There is no Lean capability
2. No Prone capability
3. You CAN Crouch, at least
4. The game provides Regenerating Health - though it's a slow regen, admittedly - Medics are still better used than waiting for it to slowly heal on its own
5. Fewer classes but after checking them out further, it's not a big deal - reminds me of the consolidation that happened in 2142.
6. Bullets do drop over distance - which is nice
7. Weapons feel great and sound particularly beefy (even on the PS3 version)
8. The Unlocks and Experience system seems pretty involved and pretty thorough
I'm in the PS3 beta right now and I'm hoping that the PC version adds some features or changes some, otherwise this still feels pretty console-ish. What people will do with this game is defend the lack of Prone by saying that it will help prevent Dolphin-diving and I suppose to some extent that's a fairly legit reason for it to not be available but it just feels goofy to not be able to use ALL of the stances that you would normally use in a fire-fight YET for some weird reason they offer ballistics modeling over distance. Weird.
The lack of Lean and Prone are going to bug me but if they get everything else right I suppose it won't be too annoying.

It's pretty impressive. For those who don't know, it's a total conversion for Doom 3 aiming to recreate the Thief series, with graphical improvements and some nifty new features.
I played the included training level (there are actual missions up for download on their site though) and was super impressed by a few things...
1. The ability to rotate and place/throw any grabbed object, makes it much easier to stack things if you want an impromptu crate pile or something. Reminded me of the Penumbra games a little. Also, objects have "weight" so that heavier objects lag a little when you try to move them.
2. Mantling animation is done really well.
3. The inclusion of rope arrows (something sadly lacking from Thief 3) and the ability to actually swing on them to reach new areas.
4. Dynamic Shadows! You can actually move crates (or anything big enough) in front of a light source and create your own hideable shadows, pretty awesome.
5. The way they handle lockpicking is pretty original, requiring timing more than anything.
The only things that seemed a little off was the voice acting of the guards, but I'm sure that's because it's probably just some member of the dev team stepping up in lieu of a real voice actor.
I'd say, if you're a Thief fan it'd be silly not to try it out, and Doom 3 is really cheap nowadays. They also have released their own editor "DarkRadiant" for people to make missions. That's actually the point of the whole mod. If I recall correctly this mod was started in response to Ion Storm not releasing an editor for Thief 3 (it was eventually released but for a long time it seemed like it wasn't going to happen"

I've read adding the command-line "--enable-monitor-profile" will work, but it does nothing for me. I'm using the latest dev build (4.x) on Windows 7 x64. :(
