Weekend Discussion: Haters Gonna Hate

Nov 07, 2009 11:00am CST
Normally I'm not one for animated .GIFs, but this recent classic really strikes a chord with me.

No, it's not commentary on any one particular issue, person or concern. Instead it's just a wonderful catch-all for what seems to be an ever-increasing wave of negativity.

Why's that? Because, quite simply, haters are gonna hate. Have a good one!

  • Serious question here, not trying to stir up anything (I swear to Gawd. LOL).

To anyone here who has the viewpoint that griping about a game is lame or annoying, can you please explain why you have that viewpoint? I just find it extremely confusing. What if it was a game you'd be really looking forward to, only to have the company crap on that game (we all know the company I'm speaking about)? Why would it be acceptable to just sit back and say nothing like a good little boy? Seriously?

Is the "pushback annoyance" (as I've termed it) from some folks due to irritation with having to listen to large amounts of general negativity on your chosen website? If that's it, why not just ignore the posts?

Is it because you don't think that posting about it is going to do any good so everyone should just shut-up and take it? Because I think it's healthier for our industry if the customers actually post their thoughts in a community forum - likes, dislikes, ambivalence...that kind of thing.

Or is just because (still referring to a game we'll call Wodern Marfare 2, LOL) people think that gripers don't have the right to gripe until they see the finished product? But I'd say that we've heard enough directly already from the developers to know that it's extremely unlikely for us to like the finished product (not to mention the stupidity seen in some of these interviews - COUGH, COUGH..BEST BUY INTERVIEW..COUGH, COUGH....)?

I'm just wondering...please help me understand this pushback viewpoint. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to explain themselves. And folks, especially those of us who are extremely upset about a certain game sequel due out on the 10th, please give whoever posts in here the benefit of the doubt. Let's try to be friendly about it, if possible - I know it's the Shack, where "anything goes" but it couldn't hurt to hear each other out once in a while with a bit less ardor and angst.
