Prey Review
It's taken a few years but we're finally going to see Prey in stores this week. You were already able to play the demo, but is the full game just as much fun? Yes, says David in his review of the game.

You certainly won't find any cars or tanks to drive in Prey, but at times you can fly around in a small biomechanical spaceship, in yet another way you'll be required to overcome puzzle obstacles. In one instance, the small flying pod required me to zoom around to different power plants in order to deactivate them, thereby powering down a large whirring fan located above me, which would allow me to pass through it. The controls to shut down the power plants were protected by force fields, which provided an obstacle to my physical bodyÂbut not my spiritual essence. There's a bit more to it, but I don't want to give anything away. I enjoyed this puzzle, because Prey wasn't content to force me to use only the pod I had inhabited to proceed; it blended puzzle-solving skills I had used before and combined them with new features, which amounted to giving me a higher feeling of satisfaction when I was able to complete the area.
No probelm with the game but I think all the clames of 'this is something new' are from people who dont remember old school fps games that clearly.

Is the rest of the game as interactive as the bar level?
Exit the client application and download this file (click on the URL link):
Unzip it into your c:\tritonpc\Prey Preload folder.
When its unpacked you should see
c:\tritonpc\Prey Preload\pb
with files in it.
Those that did the streaming should be fine, as it only affects preloaders.

We are getting things squared away and working as hard as possible. We have a considerable number of people on the servers playing right now, so Its not as bleak as it may appear. Thank you for posting the information on what it was doing on your machine. There was some good insight as to what area was having the problem running.
I will also be assisting in here as well for anyone that has had problems with Prey. I have been asking for the .dat files from the c:\program files\tritonpc and from the c:\tritonpc\prey preload folder to allow us to see what is happening on different machines.
We will not stop until we get this resolved for each person no matter what, and we will continue to communicate on the forums and via email until it is nothing but smooth sailing.

What do you suppose they could have done to get the player more attached to the characters? More time to interact with them before the shit hits the fan? Maybe they could have had the NPCs tag along with Tommy for an hour of the game, then get snatched away?

As a regular games journalist he's ok I suppose but his reviews (particularly FPS's or of any game that isn't off-center and Japanese in origin) are maddening. The guy tries so hard to be mister slightly cynical I've-seen-it-all-before guy that you want to smash his balding head in with a 360 controller.

I'm really looking forward to get my Limited Collectors edition... I'm sure i'll be proud of it... The fact that it's a 3DR influenced game, makes it worth buying for me, and i can't wait to try it...
Now i just hope they go release DNF soon...
Hurry up George, damnit... :D

I look at it this way. I can pay anywhere from $10-25 to buy a movie that's normally around 2 hours long. But unlike a game, I can't actually do anything else but watch it. Maybe there are a few special features, commentary, etc., but not that much.
So if you have an 8hr game, that's 4x the amount of use you get out of it. Even more so, you're actually involved in the game and not just sitting back as a spectator.
Plus, I find it a lot more fun to replay a game right away to try some new strategies, etc., then it is to rewatch a movie.

The demo is great and all but I'd rather hold off. Not sure if it's old age or what but call me cheap or whatever but $60 doesn't tickle my bag when it comes to buying games.
