Titan Quest Review
Shipping this week is Titan Quest, Iron Lore's action RPG which has a lot of people excited though also concerned it is little more than a Diablo clone. David reviewed the game for us and says sure, the game is very similar to Diablo 2 in a lot of ways. But that is hardly a bad thing

Just in case some of you Shackers are afraid of commitment, there are a couple of ways that you can actually retract skill points, which is quite a handy feature. The first of which is with the Undo button. When you level up and spend a point on a skill, the Undo button lights up. Let's say you accidentally clicked a spell you have no further use for, or perhaps didn't even want in the first place. Click Undo, and you get your skill point back. Here's the catch: once you close the Skill window, Undo can no longer be used. Plan and spend wisely! But not too wisely, it would seem. Scattered throughout the game are Mystics, who, for a price, can give you your spent skill points back. The more you retrieve, the more you'll have to spend, but it's nice to know you can work on other more advanced skills if you find those early game skills are no longer serving their intended purpose.
CONS
1) this game is tedious and slow-paced and cool-item drops are hard....
(my cus lost his save files and he decided not to play the game again because it would be to tedious to start over EVEN with a different character!!!)
2) limited item types-meaning each type of weapon usually have a certain set of abilities stuck to them ergo...axe of reckless power...mace of reckless power...bow of reckless power..and so-on.
3) weak runes system compared to diablo II in-that when you complete a difficulty level you might as well throw away your runes as "ugraded" versions are found in higher difficulties, diablo II had runewords which is more interesting to tinker around with...
4) as the reveiwer said * there isnt much thinking needed with battlin monster* all you just to is run up to guys, hold down your left mouse key and press potions if necessary and 95% of the time thats all you have to do!!!!
5) weak ass storyline you will so not be interested, after a while you'll just bypass everything so you can get your mission quickly......
6) watered down version of DiabloII
PROs
1) character customization- 5 stars in my book
2) epic monsters to fight in higher difficulties--small factor but good..
3) streamlined alot of stuff that was kinda tedious in Diablo II
e.g. running, portal scrolls etc..
ina nutshell i still did enjoy the game but its not a diabloII killer, reveiwer is right about diablo three though that might come out after i die...

I didn't like the demo one bit. The story was dull, the animations of the characters poor, the graphics average and the gameplay a complete and utter snoozefest. In the realm of Diablo clones this particular title is worse than Darkstone and Sacred in my book and those aren't exactly A+++ games.
Try the demo before you buy this game.

And when I say Diablo, I mean Diablo I... One reason I have always had problems enjoying Diablo II as much as the first is because I thought the story and characters in the original, however simple, were much more fun and intriguing. I think I've heard others complain about the Diablo II story, so I doubt I'm alone in this.
David: Since you didn't mention that this story was much worse/better than Diablo II in your review, I assume there was nothing notable to say? I may be left with somewhat lackluster feelings about the game if that's the case. I think that without a few funny or compelling characters, I might quickly lose interest.

Also how easy is the editor to use and is there a decent tutorial? I hate how for FarCry (Morrowind/Oblivion are in this boat too) the devs said that any could fire up the editor and start making stuff right away. Those editors are anything but easy or intuitive to use and none of them come with any sort of manual or tutorial to get you started. Okay, Crytek did eventually release a tutorial but it was still hard to follow and not very complete.

Please don't call games "like Diablo 2" RPGs.

I'm just wondering if there are enough gameplay hours for a few dedicated days of play.

The review states the following:
The major difference between Diablo II and Titan Quest is that the latter does not employ random level generation. The drops are random, the monsters are random, but the levels are not.
Did I get that right? The monsters ARE random? I hope so because the IGN review seemed to indicate otherwise.
They wrote:
This invites replayability and individual exploration of the game's style, which is rarely a bad thing, but there's no randomization of creatures or terrain to reward multiple adventures, unlike the Diablo games.
I hope monster randomization is in otherwise the replay on this game will be much less. Map randomization isn't so important to me personally.
Thanks!

What is more important to Shackers?
Loot and Quantity of Dungeons / Goodies / Monsters to Kill?
Detailed locations and branching quests / areas?
Less Mobs but more realistic Ecologies?
Slower or faster game play? (Titan Quest vs Diablo 2 speed of play)
Shackers Go! Voice your opinions (chocolate starfish not included)

Regardless, I'm skipping this one because I can't endorse a game that doesn't try to be original in any way.
