Shack Preview: TES IV: Oblivion
"It's a big fantasy sandbox. It's a big huge open-ended world where we create all of these stories and characters and plotlines going on and then let you create whatever kind of character you want to be in that world, and jump in and really figure out what your role is going to be. We really try and define as much as possible what's going on, but not define who you are in the world."That's the world of The Elder Scrolls in a nutshell, from the mouth of Bethesda Softworks' Pete Hines. "It's up to you to decide how much of the main quest you want to do," he continued. "Do you want to become a thief or an assassin, or both? Do you want to live this dual life of being an up and up mage but at the same time you're a member of the Dark Brotherhood and you're assassinating people for money? It's entirely up to you how you want to play in that world." I recently got a chance to play for several hours in that world, as well as chat it up with Pete to see how the highly anticipated The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (X360, PC) is shaping up. Oblivion is of course one of the most anticipated titles of the year for both PC and Xbox 360.
Yeah, I completely agree. But it doesn't matter any more because I won't read anything by that fuckface ever again -provided I'm not already spoiled on the subject by some other assholes.
I have no idea how long he has been writing about gaming, or even if he has some background on it, but the really good gaming journalists -or whatever you may like to call them- who have been around 5+ years often makes the little but honorary effort to put a warning sentence about any spoiler where it's due..
I'll write one last thing, but in case some people finds my use of language disturbing, I'll hide it in a spoiler tag, so if you are one of them, don't read further:
Thanks Chris, for spoiling it for me, you stupid piece of shit! You could at least remove that spoiler part after some people complained about it here, but apparently I'm right in that you are such a stupid piece of shit, you waste of flesh!

ignore the framerate counter in the corner, my computer is older than morrowind is, except for my video card, but I get the same framerates at 640 as I do at 1280 + AA + AF

Those are some of the worst looking monsters ive ever seen!
World of Warcraft even looks better than this, cause its characters have some sort of style and class, and dont look like amaetur shit.
Look at that ogre man.
Maybe im being excessively harsh, but either way.. i was expecting better.

Seriously though, great preview Remo. Sounds like I'll be getting the 360 version, since it seems to be on par graphically and the load times aren't too nuts.

Pentium 4 3.4
1GB Ram
ATI X1900 512 MB
The resolution was set at 1280x768 without any AA but all other graphical settings on max. I believe Remo played it on the same set up.

I won't be buying... I don't enjoy furries in my games. (Yes I know they've been in every morowind game blah blah, doesn't change the fact that they disturb me and tear me out of the immersion)

A different viewpoint from someone else new to the series.
While Remo's preview got me pumped, this more "informal" preview let some air out of my tires.
What's the deal on load times, specifically on the 360? Sounds kinda bad.
Also, the combat sounds weak, although that was never the series' highlight. :/

However, my 7800 came a little in anticipation.

BTW, the last thumbnail image on page 3 is wrong. It shows the first image from the first page, but clicking on it takes you to an alchemy screenshot.
