Shack Preview: Unreal Tournament 2007
Getting the flow of content started in the new year is David with his preview of Unreal Tournament 2007, offering an overview of the game and quotes from Epic producer Jeff Morris. So pretty looking. Epic's latest multiplayer shooter is due out later this year.

Many of the nine UT2004 vehicles have been revamped to be grouped into the Axon Team. Facing off against Axon is the brand new Necris team, which will have their own set of nine vehicles. Someone at Epic must be a "Back to the Future II" fan, because one of these new rides happens to be none other than a hoverboard. (Though hopefully sans the pink color scheme and "Mattel" label.) Tim says that while it's technically not a vehicle, "the new hoverboard is quickly becoming a play test favorite. Instead of your trusty rocket launcher, hoverboard riders have a grapple that they can use to latch onto other vehicles. It's quite a sight to see a Hellbender towing three hoverboard riding teammates into the fray behind it." So basically, you've got power, McFly! Let's hope these hoverboards can go over water.

This is why I shreik anytime I read that epic is building on top of ut99 and ut2004. It will be a huge mistake to take anything more than the idea of onslaught and vehicles from ut2004.

Similarl to many others, I dont like 2k3 or 2k4 nearly as much.
I've been meaning to play all the mods like Alien Swarm but can't find UT2004 for purchase anywhere for the life of me.

I realize that they don't want people getting bored with the game, but I submit that they've experimentally shown that just adding more doesn't necessarily increase a game's staying power.

I used to loved FPS Deathmatch back in Q1 and Q2 days....
And I always felt Q3 looked to 'unrealish' to me
Granted 2004 I picked up and it was fun for a bit, but didn't 'catch' me....
I'm more looking forward to what the Unreal Engine 3 can do in other games.
And the fact that this engine will take advantage of this Aegia Physx Chip...

What I really want to see though, is a true sequel to Unreal 1 using this engine. None of this 'here's a game with uninspired weapons, and uh, there's one level with Skarrj in it.'
I want to explore alien landscapes with a arsenal of unique weapons to a new age/trancy soundtrack. With a beautiful skybox. Prey and Gears of War don't... quite fit the bill though.
Epic Megaultramegasupergames should take some hints from the Tribes 2 peeps and release a flood of 'em.
Or at least two new ones...
