Shacknews Holiday Buying Guide 2005

Well here it is, the latest edition of Shack's somewhat-annual Holiday Buying Guide!
The holidays are approaching, and as such Shacknews thought it might be handy to help you out with the shopping, at least assuming you're shopping for other people who like games. And hey, if you're not shopping for anybody, here's a bunch of great stuff you can buy all for yourself, you miser! True, this may be a bit "late," (but what does "late" even mean, really?) but am I to believe you haven't been procrastinating? Well, with the guidance of the Shack, you can now get on with your life thanks to this handy games buying guide delineated by platform.

As this isn't any kind of greatest games of the year list (at least, not officially), don't expect them to be ordered in any way other than arbitrarily. I've got nine pages with about 70 games up in this business, and almost every one of them has some kind of description or recommendation, which should mean there's something here you find useful. It's all for your perusal, so start perusing. In the meantime I'll start preparing stock responses for the angry accusations that I've left out the most important game of the year for your favorite platform.

  • This year I got to skip the XBOX page. It doesn't get a lot of play, and it mostly doing duty as our DVD player. Today, my 2 year old tried to pop in a movie and it went click-click-click and presented him with a "you have to send your shit into MS for repair". He cried when he didn't get to watch Rudolph the Red-nosed reindeer. :( Happy ending though, I remembered that the PStwo played discs, so after using the controller to manipulate the menus I was his hero

The good news is that based on Remo's list of DS games my current library is legit:
    \/ Mario Kart DS
    \/ Advance Wars: Dual Strike
    \/ Nintendogs

I'm getting the the following 2 for Christmas:
    \/ Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
\/ Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

I'm torn on Meteos and Animal Crossing. I wish Meteos were $20. :( Based on 3 minutes at a retail kiosk I found that it's fun, but it's no MK:DS or AW:DS? Phoenix Wright intrigues me, but not enough to purchase at full price either. And there's still those GBA games I don't have, like Zelda: LttP and Minish.
